It’s becoming clear the Pitt Meadows Marauders will have a long way to go to live up to their No. 8 ranking.
“There is huge disappointment in our performance this year,” said head coach Rich Goulet after a Wednesday afternoon loss. They opened the Telus Basketball Classic with a 61-57 loss to the Sardis Falcons.
Sardis’ Hayden Lejeune scored 20 points in the first half, as the six-foot-eight big man presented all kinds of matchup problems for Goulet’s crew, and forced them out of man-on-man defence.
Pitt trailed 30-29 at the half, enjoyed a great run that put them up 44-34 early in the third quarter, but inconsistent offence cost them the game.
Alejandro Canjura with 15 points and point guard Sho Nashimoto with 12 led the offence.
The loss knocked them out of contention in the tourney, and they played a consolation game against Archbishop Carney on Thursday.
